Scroll of the Strandline

Scroll of the Strandline is made from a length of driftwood with a scroll of hand-dyed linen fabric using earth pigments suspended within a box frame so it appears to float. Behind it sits a sheet of suminagashi marbled paper, its fluid patterns suggesting the ebb and flow of the tide. The scroll offers a close study of the strand line, using simple stitches and threads to follow how seaweed gathers, twists and catches on the shore. As the fabric unfurls, it reveals small shifts of debris, flotsam trapped within the pull of the water and the quiet marks left as it retreats. Each stitched line reflects a gentle change in movement or direction, recording details that might otherwise be missed. 

Encased in a 73cm X 23cm white painted wooden frame (4.5 cm deep), fitted with a durable cotton cord for secure wall display.
